Bringing your baby into the world is one of life’s greatest joys and photographing those tiny details is a privilege I take very seriously. Newborns are delicate, with unique physical needs and limitations. From temperature regulation and airways to circulation and startle reflexes everything must be handled with intention, patience, and extensive training.

That’s why I’m proud to share that I’ve recently completed the Newborn Safety Guidelines & Assessment for Photographers, led by internationally recognized newborn photography mentor Kelly Brown. Newborn Safety Certificate

This certification reinforces my commitment to providing a safe, calm, and professional experience for your family from start to finish.

What This Means for You and Your Baby

When you trust me with your newborn’s first portraits, you can rest assured that:

Every pose is safely supported — no forcing baby into unnatural positions 🌡️ Studio environment is controlled for warmth and comfort 🧼 Cleanliness and sanitation protocols are followed each session Baby-led pacing ensures comfort comes first 🤍 Hands-on safety is always prioritized over getting “the shot”. Your baby’s wellbeing matters more than any prop, pose, or backdrop.

Elevating the Art of Newborn Photography

Photography is both a craft and a responsibility. Alongside continued education in posing, lighting, and creative design, I believe safety knowledge must grow just as much — especially for the tiniest clients we serve. This certification reflects my ongoing commitment to professionalism and care, so your family can relax and enjoy the experience knowing your newborn is in trained hands.

Ready to Capture Your Baby’s First Story?

Whether you want a simple, soft portrait or a custom artistic concept, every session is designed with beauty, comfort, and safety in mind.

What Parents Should Ask Any Newborn Photographer

Safety credentials aren’t always front-and-center when families are shopping for photographers — but they should be. Here are a few questions worth asking before you book:

Have you completed formal newborn safety training? General photography courses don’t cover newborn-specific anatomy, airway safety, or safe posing principles. Look for photographers who have completed training from recognized mentors like Kelly Brown, Ana Brandt, or similar credentialed educators.

How do you handle a fussy or unsettled baby? A safety-trained photographer will never force a pose. Sessions should be baby-led, with frequent feeding breaks, warmth checks, and patience built in — not rushed.

What sanitation protocols do you follow? Studio props, wraps, and surfaces come into contact with multiple babies. Ask how fabrics are laundered and how surfaces are sanitized between sessions.

Are you working alone or with an assistant? For composite poses (images that look like baby is unsupported), a trained spotter or second set of hands should always be present.

These aren’t trick questions — any experienced, safety-conscious newborn photographer will welcome them. At New Joy Photography, I’m happy to walk you through exactly how I handle each of these before you ever set foot in the studio.
