🍼 What to Expect at Your Studio Newborn Session

ree

If you’ve never done a newborn session before, you might be wondering what really happens behind the scenes. How long it takes, what you should bring, or whether your baby will cooperate. (Spoiler: they always do. 💕)

At New Joy Photography in Gilmer, TX, my goal is to make your experience simple, peaceful, and joyful. Whether you’re coming from Longview, Tyler, or anywhere in East Texas, here’s exactly what you can expect when you walk through my studio doors.

🌿 A Warm Welcome (and a Deep Breath)

When you arrive, I want you to be able to relax right away. My studio is warm, cozy, and set up before you even walk in. Every wrap, headband, and prop is ready based on your preferences and baby’s age.

You don’t have to worry about bringing anything except your baby (a diaper bag and some snacks). Everything else from wraps to props is provided.

Many parents tell me this is the first time they’ve had a chance to just sit and breathe since coming home from the hospital. I’ll usually womb sounds playing and a comfortable spot for you to sit, drink water, and enjoy watching your little one’s portraits unfold. ☕

📸 The Session Flow

Newborn sessions are designed around your baby’s comfort. Every baby is unique. Some sleep right through, and others like to stretch and peek around a bit first. I take my time, working gently and patiently so your baby stays content.

Sessions times vary based on the package you choose but on the low end 1-2 and high end 3-4 hours, giving plenty of time for feeding, changing, and soothing breaks. There’s no rush, I only book one newborn session per day, so your baby has my full attention.

I typically start with classic wrapped poses, then move to simple setups on the posing bed or in props (like baskets or buckets). Every pose is adjusted for your baby’s natural movement. I never force positions, and safety always comes first.

🩵 Parents & Siblings Welcome

I always encourage family photos, especially if you have older children. Those first sibling photos are often the ones parents cherish most. Don’t stress about coordinating outfits. I’ll guide you toward soft, neutral tones that photograph beautifully. And if you’re not feeling your best postpartum (I completely understand), I can use gentle angles and posing to make you feel comfortable and beautiful. 💗 For parents bringing little ones I usually recommend we do those first so the other parent or person can take them to grab a bite to eat or whatever works for you family. These sessions can be a little boring for kiddos.

✨ After Your Session

Once your session is finished, I’ll carefully sort and hand-edit each image to highlight every sweet detail. Tiny eyelashes, squishy cheeks, those perfect little fingers and toes.

Once editing is completed, you’ll receive a private online gallery where you can choose your favorites and decide whether you’d like digitals, wall art, or prints. Many families choose my “Legacy Collection” because it includes all the images fully edited and ready to treasure forever.

🌸 What Makes My Studio Different

There’s something special about photographing babies in a dedicated studio space. The lighting is perfect, the environment is calm, and everything is designed with your comfort in mind.

Families from Longview, Tyler, and even further across East Texas often tell me it’s worth the short drive because they can just show up, relax, and leave with beautiful memories. There's no stress, no setup, and no worries.

💕 Final Thoughts

Your newborn session should feel like a moment to pause. A little oasis in those busy first weeks where you can sit back, smile, and take in the wonder of your new baby.

If you’re expecting, I’d love to help you plan a session that feels easy, peaceful, and meaningful.
