Choosing the Perfect Props for Your Newborn Session

One of the most common questions I get when planning a newborn session is “Do I need to pick out props?” The short answer is no but you absolutely can if you want to!

Every session at New Joy Photography is thoughtfully styled so you do not have to worry about designing anything. Most parents simply share their preferred colors, and I take care of the rest creating a cohesive beautiful setup just for your baby.

How Styling Works for Your Session

When you book your newborn session, I will ask a couple simple questions like:

What colors do you love? Are there any colors you want to avoid?

From there I design your setups using everything in the studio. Each look is carefully styled so all of the elements work together from wraps and layers to textures and props. The goal is a gallery that feels soft timeless and cohesive. The week of your session I build a workflow for your specific session including planned poses, colors, and props. Of course, baby is in charge, so I'll always adjust things as needed to make sure they are comfortable and happy.

My Studio Prop Collection

Over the years I have built a carefully curated collection of props that photograph beautifully and safely for newborns. These include wooden bowls and buckets for classic timeless setups. Baskets and woven textures for soft organic looks. Vintage style beds and trays for a storytelling feel. Specialty pieces like heart bowls for something unique. Layers wraps and headbands to tie everything together

Every piece in the studio is chosen with both comfort and safety in mind, so your baby is always supported and posed gently.

Some parents fall in love with a specific bowl or basket while others have a favorite look they have seen in my work. If that is the case, we can choose your prop ahead of time and build your session around it so everything flows beautifully.
